Tusker fined over 2.5 million for failure to disclose Robert Matano’s contract details

The Football Kenya Federation’s First Instance Body (FIB) has imposed fines on FC Talanta and Tusker FC for not fulfilling certain criteria outlined in the National Club Licensing regulations. FC Talanta was fined USD 3,300 (Ksh. 530,623) for failing to present a Women’s team, as required.

Similarly, Tusker FC was ordered to pay USD 16,100 (Ksh. 2,588,799) for not submitting the contract of its head coach as per the agreement with the licensing body. FC Talanta, despite being granted a license, was penalized USD 3,000 (Ksh.

482,384) for the infraction of not having a Youth Team and Women’s Team as stipulated. The club also paid an additional fine of USD 300 for missing the stipulated timelines by three days. The FIB issued a license to Tusker FC for the FKF PL 2023/24 season, but the club failed to submit the Head Coach’s contract despite repeated reminders from the Club Licensing Manager.

All 18 clubs that qualified for the 2023/24 FKF PL based on sporting merit were granted a license to participate in the league. It is mandatory for Premier League men’s and women’s clubs to make requisite applications each season and undergo mandatory spot checks during the season to ensure adherence to regulations. In the run-up to the upcoming season, The First Instance Body has requested the Club licensing management to conduct spot checks to ensure compliance with the National Club Licensing regulations.

The Club Licensing process plays a key role in promoting the professionalization of football worldwide, using principles-based criteria and setting minimum standards for clubs to be licensed and participate in FKF and CAF competitions. This process is essential for promoting professional management and sustainable development of football.
