Patrick Odongo, a rising star of the Kenya Sevens rugby team, is seeking support to fund his father’s medical treatment. Joanes Okongo, his father, needs corrective heart surgery which the family cannot afford. The Kenya Sevens fraternity has initiated a fundraiser to aid the family in meeting the expenses, with Ksh 1,500,000 required for the procedure.
Kenyans of goodwill have been encouraged to donate via an Mpesa Paybill available on the team’s social media pages. The urgent requirement is for Ksh 1.5 million to cover the expenses, and the rugby community and compassionate Kenyans are urged to contribute to this important cause. In addition to monetary support, a supply of 18 pints of blood (group O+) is needed for Okongo.
The national team’s statement concluded with a plea for Kenyans to unite and support their own, emphasizing that every contribution counts towards saving a life. Patrick Odongo played a crucial role in Kenya’s qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and was also instrumental in their recent victory in the opening leg of the 2024 World Sevens Challenger Series in Dubai. He scored two tries in the final against South Africa, despite the personal tragedy of losing his mother.
