Gor Mahia’s 10-man team secures season double over AFC Leopards in Kenya’s SportPesa Scores & News.

Gor Mahia FC continued their march towards defending their title in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) with a 1-0 win over AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji derby at Nyayo National Stadium. The winning goal was scored by Austine Odhiambo after a mistake by the AFC Leopards’ goalkeeper Levis Opiyo. Odhiambo capitalized on a costly error from Opiyo, redirecting the ball into the net in the 30th minute of the match, sending Gor Mahia supporters into a frenzy.

This put Gor Mahia in a nine-point lead with seven games remaining in the league. AFC Leopards had missed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Jaffari Owiti’s effort hit the goal post, causing disbelief among their fans. Shortly after, Gor Mahia’s custodian Kevin Omondi received a straight red card for preventing a clear goal-scoring opportunity.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Gor Mahia managed to secure the narrow win and claim bragging rights. Gor Mahia’s victory increased their tally to 57 points, nine more than second-placed Police FC, while AFC Leopards remained stuck in eighth position with 38 points from 27 matches. In other fixtures, Tusker FC secured a 1-0 victory against Ulinzi Stars, and Murang’a Seal and Muhoroni Youth shared a draw at the SportPesa Arena, with the Brewers’ goal coming from Erick Kapaito shortly after the start of the second half.

Eliud Owalo donates K’Ogalo 500k before Mashemeji Derby

In November 2023, Owalo, through his foundation, donated a bus valued at Ksh20 million to K’Ogalo. The team received a handsome token of half a million from ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo to boost their morale and facilitate their preparations for the anticipated Mashemeji derby scheduled for Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Nyayo Stadium. Plans for the mouthwatering clash between arch-rivals Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards have hit a notch higher as Gor players receive financial support.

Owalo also paid a courtesy call on Gor Mahia FC for a chat with the players at their MPESA Academy training ground in Thika ahead of the weekend’s Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards. The acquisition of the bus was a relief to Gor Mahia, who faced a turbulent period earlier when the previous bus was sold by auctioneers. Gor Mahia’s coach, Johnathan McKinstry, expressed gratitude towards CS Owalo, acknowledging the impact the donation would have on the club’s travel arrangements.

AFC Leopards, who recently collected millions from their birthday anniversary staged at Nyayo Stadium, also received donations that will be utilized to support the team for the rest of the season. With both clubs financially endowed at the moment, the Mashemeji Derby is expected to be a thrilling encounter with both teams vying for the maximum three points at stake. Nyayo Stadium has already been prepared to host the country’s biggest derby on Sunday, with regular fans charged Ksh300 while VIP fans will pay Ksh1,000.

Gor Mahia’s Unbeaten Streak at Risk as They Face Kenya Police in the ‘Sirkal Derby’

Gor Mahia’s Austin Odhiambo celebrates after scoring against Tusker. A win for Gor Mahia will take their tally to 46 points and move them one step closer to lifting a record-extending 21st title.

They are still unbeaten after 19 games (W12 D7). Several mouth-watering clashes are on offer this weekend in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).

Struggling clubs such as Shabana FC and Nzoia Sugar FC will be aiming to rectify their past mistakes and register better results in match week 20 to avoid being relegated at the end of the season. On the other hand, league leaders Gor Mahia FC will have to overcome a difficult Police FC test to maintain their unbeaten run.

Despite the drama, the Northern Irish international has also expressed confidence in his side returning home with the maximum points. “We know it is going to be very difficult.

You know there are a lot of players who have crossed over from Gor to Police over the last few years. We also know that the evidence of the season has shown that if we play to our maximum, most teams struggle against us.

It is about putting in a top performance and if we do that, we know the points are available for us,” stated McKinstry ahead of the crunch tie. A win for Gor Mahia will take their tally to 46 points and move them one step closer to lifting a record-extending 21st title.

Simba wa Nairobi cannot afford to lose two matches in a row in the competitive league, because doing so may give the likes of Posta Rangers, Tusker FC, and Bandari FC a chance to dethrone them from the second position. The Kisii-based club sits at position 17 currently on 17 points, four more than the bottom-placed Nzoia Sugar side.

As for the third-placed Posta Rangers, the clash offers them a golden opportunity to reduce the gap between themselves and leaders Gor Mahia. The fixture is slated for 3 PM on Saturday at the Western Kenya based Sudi Stadium.

Teenager chooses Gor Mahia over AFC Leopards, despite high ratings

Mark Shaban, a highly-rated 17-year-old forward, has signed with Gor Mahia FC, the defending champions of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL). Shaban was a standout player for Friends School Shanderema during the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) ball games, helping the school qualify for the East Africa School Games in Rwanda.

During the games, Shaban impressed with his performance, including scoring a hat-trick in a match against Kalangalala from Tanzania. His former team, Green Commandos Sports Club, wished him well as he embarks on this new chapter in his career.

Shaban is expected to compete for a starting position at Gor Mahia, alongside leading FKFPL goal scorer Benson Omala. His signing comes alongside that of skillful wingers Sheriff Musa from Bidco United and Enock Wanyama from a Taiwan-based club Leopard Cat.

Gor Mahia currently holds the top spot in the FKFPL standings with 43 points, 10 points more than second-placed Tusker FC. The team is yet to suffer a defeat this season, with 12 wins and seven draws. Their next league match is against Police FC on Saturday, February 3.

The formal unveiling of Shaban as a Gor Mahia player took place on Thursday, and his signing has been met with positive anticipation from fans and the football community.
