Omanyala and Moraa Shine at AK Meet as Mark Otieno Makes Comeback After Two-Year Absence

The third Athletics Kenya (AK) track and field weekend meet took place at the Nyayo National Stadium. Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala and Mary Moraa had an excellent start in the competition. Omanyala comfortably won his heat in the 200m discipline with an impressive time of 20.46 seconds, securing a spot in the semifinals. His younger sibling, Isaac Omurwa, also performed well, finishing second in his 100m heat before lowering his time to 10:33 in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Mark Otieno made his competitive comeback after a two-year suspension for doping-related reasons. He performed well in the race and expressed that the competition was tough but also an opportunity to showcase talent and determination. Otieno credited Omanyala for inspiring and showing that everything is possible.

Another notable performance was from Moraa, who participated in the 400m race and clocked the fastest time of 53:01 from all the heats. Other winners at the meet included Shadrack Kipkurui in the men’s 5000m and Rebecca Njeri Mwangi in the women’s 10000m.

The event showcased the impressive performances of these athletes and set the stage for a competitive final, with Isaac Omanyala eyeing to emulate his brother’s success and Moraa displaying her versatility as a two-lap specialist.
