Match week 20 of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) was a weekend filled with drama on and off the pitch. The defeat against Police cut their lead at the top of the table to eight points.
Kenya Police’s shock move to increase ticket prices from 200 to 1500 led to a dominant display that ended Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run. AFC Leopards continued with their good run by winning a fourth consecutive game, with other clubs such as Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars, and Posta Rangers also securing victories in their respective matches.
Meanwhile, Nairobi City Stars and Shabana shared spoils. Despite cries from football stakeholders, the law enforcers’ decision to charge record high gate fees remained unchanged, leading to Gor Mahia’s loss with a score of 3-1.
This defeat marked the end of K’Ogalo’s 19-match unbeaten run. As a result, Police made a significant leap in the FKFPL table standings after the win, jumping to position three with 33 points, 10 less than leaders Gor Mahia.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards opened the scoring through Victor Omune’s spot kick and successfully held on to the lead, ending match week 20 at position 10 in the log with 27 points. Kariobangi Sharks sat at position 16 with 19 points, having lost their match in extra time.
Bandari FC managed to secure a victory over Murang’a Seal, with Hamisi Mwaphalu scoring the winner in the last minute of the match. Murang’a Seal, currently sitting at position 12 in the FKFPL log with 24 points, has gone 10 matches without picking up maximum points after this defeat.
