Ghana Fires Former Brighton Manager Chris Hughton Following AFCON Disappointment

Ghana has made the decision to part ways with head coach Chris Hughton following a disappointing performance at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON). Hughton, who took over the role in February 2023, was unable to meet the expectations set for the team, winning only 13 matches during his tenure. The decision to sack Hughton was confirmed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), including the dissolution of the entire technical team. The GFA stated that they will soon provide a roadmap for the future of the national team.

Hughton’s time as head coach was marked by struggles, including a surprising 3-2 defeat to Comoros and a disappointing performance in the AFCON where the team failed to secure a win. In their final group match, Ghana lost a 2-0 lead to draw with Mozambique, resulting in their exit from the tournament. The disappointment was felt by both Ghanaians and their global supporters. Jordan Ayew scored two penalties for Ghana in that match.

The hope is that the next coach of the Black Stars will be able to restore the team to its former glory.
