On Saturday, March 6, 2024, Kabras Sugar successfully defended their Kenya Cup title by defeating their arch-rivals, KCB Rugby Club 29-5 at the Kakamega Showground. The Carlos Katywa-coached Kabras side displayed dominance throughout the match, claiming their first three-peat.
Walter Okoth scored an early try for Kabras after a brilliant dummy from Brian Tanga, giving the Sugar men a 7-0 lead, which was further solidified when Ntabeni Dukisa successfully converted the try. KCB faced challenges as their captain, Griffins Musila, was sent to the sin bin after an infraction, leaving them with 14 men.
Kabras continued their impressive performance, with Dukisa scoring a try and successfully converting it, extending their lead to 22-0. However, KCB managed to score their first try of the match through Vincent Onyala just before the end of the first half, reducing the deficit to 22-5.
As the match progressed, KCB found themselves once again reduced to 14 men after Elvis Olukusi was also sent to the sin bin. Kabras sealed their victory with a final try scored by Tanga and converted by Dukisa, ending the match with a 29-5 lead.
The win secured Kabras’ third consecutive Kenya Cup title, placing them among the exclusive group of teams to achieve a three-peat in the history of the tournament, alongside Nondies, KCB, Kenya Harlequin, and Impala. Additionally, it marked the second consecutive season that Kabras finished the season undefeated, a rare feat in the top flight league.
