The 2024 Boston Marathon, scheduled for April 15, is generating excitement with pre-race favorites Hellen Obiri and Evans Chebet expected to headline the event. The competition boasts a hefty prize pool with winners in each category set to receive $150,000.
Additionally, the Abbott World Marathon Majors’ Road race organizers have allocated a total of $1.2 million to be awarded to the competitors, with top finishers in the elite races standing to earn significant sums. The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) President, Jack Fleming, and board chairman, Cheri Blauwet, have hailed the upcoming road race as one of the best ever.
The event is anticipated to draw star runners including John Korir, Ronald Korir, Cyprian Kotut, and Albert Korir on the men’s side, while the women’s category will feature Hellen Obiri, Worknesh Degefa, Zeineba Yimer, Ababel Yeshaneh, Mary Ngugi, Vibian Chepkirui, and Edna Kiplagat. The prize money for the competition will be awarded to the top finishers, with the second and third-place positions also receiving substantial amounts, albeit subject to tax procedures and other deductions.
The marathon, covering a distance of 26.2 miles, is anticipated to be a celebration of athletic achievement, marked by strong community support. Participants and spectators are encouraged to savor the experience from start to finish and revel in the unique atmosphere.
