Hellen Obiri made history at the 2024 Boston Marathon by becoming the sixth woman to win back-to-back titles at the prestigious race. The Kenyan athlete outpaced her compatriot Sharon Lokedi in the women’s race, clinching the coveted title in 2:22.37. Meanwhile, 44-year-old Edna Kiplagat finished third, completing the Kenyan sweep. This achievement was particularly impressive given the strong field of competitors in the race.

Obiri’s victory further solidifies her reputation as one of the best female road race runners in the world. Her performance at the marathon showcased her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport. The Kenyan team’s success in the women’s race also drew pride from the country’s athletics fans, as Obiri and Lokedi were part of a six-member team selected to represent Kenya at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. In the men’s race, Ethiopian runner Lemma emerged victorious with a remarkable time of 2:06.17.

Mohamed Esa from Kenya secured the second position in his Boston Marathon debut, followed by Evans Chebet, who had aimed to win the race for the third consecutive year. Chebet’s strong performance earned him a third-place finish in the men’s category. Overall, both the women’s and men’s races at the 2024 Boston Marathon showcased outstanding performances from elite athletes, setting the stage for future competitions in the world of marathon running.
