Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, is aiming to lead Nigeria to a first AFCON crown since 2013. He believes that winning the AFCON would be one of the best moments of his life, even surpassing his previous achievements of winning the Serie A title and being named the African footballer of the year. Osimhen acknowledges the pressure he faces as the eyes of Africa’s most populous country are on him, but he remains confident in his ability to handle it. He has always aimed high in life and does not fold under pressure. Osimhen attributes his success to the inspiration he received from Nigerian greats like Nwankwo Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha. His previous AFCON experiences were frustrating, as he had limited playing time in 2019 and missed the 2022 edition. However, he sees those experiences as valuable learning opportunities. Osimhen scored in Nigeria’s opening game against Equatorial Guinea, but the result was a disappointment. Now, the team faces the pressure of playing against hosts Ivory Coast in their second group game. Osimhen believes that Nigeria has the quality to have a successful tournament.
