Kenyan Athlete Aims to Conquer Two Prestigious Marathons in Quick Succession

44-year-old Kenyan long-distance runner Edna Kiplagat is set to participate in two high-profile marathons within a three-month span. The first race, the Houston Marathon, will take place on Sunday, January 14. Kiplagat will compete against formidable opponents such as fellow Kenyan Hellen Obiri, Israeli runner Lorna Salpeter, and Ethiopian runners Buze Diriba and Mestawut Fikir. The prize money for the Houston Marathon is $60,000 (approximately Ksh 9,552,000). Following the Houston showdown, Kiplagat will have three months to prepare for the Boston Marathon, scheduled for Monday, April 15. Kiplagat, a two-time winner of the Boston Marathon, aims to secure her third title in this prestigious race. She recently signed a contract with Puma, and her impressive running career also includes victories at the 2010 New York City Marathon and the 2014 London Marathon. The Boston Marathon will feature strong competition, including defending champion Hellen Obiri and 2022 New York City Marathon winner Sharon Lokedi, as well as other notable runners such as Tadu Teshome, Worknesh Degefa, Dera Dida, Meseret Belete, Hiwot Gebremaryam, Jackie Gaughan, and Fatima Gardadi.
