Steeplechase prodigy Faith Cherotich, 19, recently revealed the unique role that Faith Kipyegon plays in her career. Cherotich, who won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, spoke highly of Kipyegon as both a supporter and critic. She considers Kipyegon as her mentor and has learned a great deal from her. Cherotich expressed her gratitude for Kipyegon’s guidance and hopes to become a champion like her.
In addition to her successful career, Cherotich also shared a personal setback she faced. After being involved in a car accident, she had to recover and had only three weeks to train before the World Championships trials. Despite the challenges, she was able to qualify and perform well. Luckily, the accident was not serious, and no one sustained major injuries. Cherotich’s manager, Valentijn Trouw, mentioned that she had minor injuries and had to rest due to a concussion.
Trouw, who manages several successful Kenyan athletes, including Eliud Kipchoge, Geoffrey Kamworor, and Kipyegon, stated that they are currently searching for an experienced coach to continue Cherotich’s training. She has been working with a local coach while attending school, but they are now looking to take her career to the next level with a qualified tutor.
